The Wall Street Journal: US Exports of LNG Aren’t Enough to Solve Europe’s Gas Problem — Market Talk
March 2, 2022
US exports of liquefied natural gas won’t be enough to solve Europe’s natural gas-supply shortage, which could become worse with the Ukraine war, according to Poten & Partners, an energy-focused broker and consultant. “Eventually things are going to affect [LNG] supply out of the US,” says Kristen Holmquist, head of forecasting at Poten’s business intelligence unit. She adds that the US’s currently high LNG-export levels aren’t sustainable as spare capacity is limited and plants can have outages and need maintenance. “The notion that the US can keep pumping out seven or more million tons of LNG a [month] throughout the year, I just don’t think … that’s possible.”
