Tankers Still Afloat
The shipping markets tend to ebb and flow with the health and cycles of the world economy and trade. While it is sometimes difficult to determine the root causes of the bursts in the market, a downward correction in freight rates can be felt quickly especially if there is a surplus of tonnage. Sudden changes in demand and consumption patterns can convert a well supplied market into one with a capacity glut to the detriment of shipowners. Various shipping sectors – tankers, containers, dry bulk, and gas – will experience peaks and troughs at different points for a variety of reasons and durations.
