Tanker Supply Cloud Has A Silver Lining

19 Jan 2017:  We recently updated the age profile statistics for the tanker fleet.  At first glance, this is not a pretty picture.  Based on the delivery schedule of the current orderbook, deliveries of new tankers in 2017 will be at the highest level since 2009, which came at the end of the tanker market “super cycle”.  While, it is difficult to see how the market can absorb such a large orderbook without further pressure on tanker rates and prices, there may be some mitigating factors to consider.
