Strait Flush
As a bunkering port near the Arabian Gulf, Fujairah already plays an important role in international tanker markets. It has long served an anchorage point for ships awaiting nomination for cargoes in the Arabian Gulf, but coming years are likely to see Fujairah’s role expand. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is attempting to utilize Fujairah’s strategic location in a development plan it hopes will enhance the emirate’s status as a maritime hub rivaling Rotterdam and Singapore. A number of ongoing projects related to the development effort in Fujairah have potential to influence regional and international tanker trade flows.
