December 11, 2024
“Amid the ongoing drought, Colombia has been importing more LNG to cover the shortfall in hydropower,” Poten & Partners Inc.’s Sergio Chapa, senior LNG analyst, told NGI. “So far this year, we’ve seen 33 deliveries discharging nearly 4.1 million cubic meters (MMcm) of LNG. That’s an 83% increase from the 17 deliveries discharging more than 2.2 MMcm of LNG the previous year.” “SPEC LNG’s majority owner Promigas wants to increase capacity to 450 MMcf/d by July 2025,” Poten & Partners said in an Oct. 31 research note. “The facility plans to gauge interest among non-power plant customers by holding an open season before the end of the year to see which companies want to reserve some of that new capacity. “If those plans are successful, SPEC LNG plans to undergo a second round to boost import capacity up to 533 MMcf/d by July 2027.”
