LNG Market Outlook: Global Exports/Imports Re-Balance
Global LNG exports and imports began trending down in March with average monthly imports falling at a faster pace than exports. This raised concerns for cargo cancellations in the US and floating storage, due to overall weaker demand and high inventory levels, though this has not yet come to fruition. Global LNG imports and exports present a much more balanced view in June with exports and imports trending at about 1.1 MMt/d.
In total, global imports and exports are forecast to range between 32 MMt/m and 33 MMt/m in 3Q 2023 – down from an average of about 35 MMt thus far in 2023. Maintenance from the US and Australia as well as lower output from Qatar and lower LNG demand from the JKT region as well as Europe are anticipated to bring imports and exports lower.
