Escalating tensions with the US over the buildup of Russian troops on Ukraine’s border poses a further threat to the startup of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. The US has warned that it will stop Nord Stream 2 from operating if Russia invades Ukraine. The 1,230 km (764 miles) pipeline, which will bring Russian gas to Germany through the Baltic Sea, was completed in September. It has been ready for gas transportation after test volumes were flowed through the two strings that make up the 55 Bcm/y pipeline late last year.
