Following the Herd

The tanker fleet is faced with a very large orderbook. The reason the market is in such a position today can be explained by a theory applied to population growth known as The Tragedy of the Commons.  Under this premise, individuals will behave rationally, acting in their own best interest to maximize individual gains. However, in doing so, the individual ultimately destroys the underlying common resource and thus the very source of their gains. Download here
