Drill, Baby, Drill?
In what feels like a sharp contrast to his pre-election mantra, this week saw President Obama announce an end to the prohibition on oil and gas exploration in selected coastal areas of the United States. While claims that this expansion of domestic drilling will bring the United States closer to “energy independence” can be dismissed as political posturing, the change is a positive first step for the oil and gas industry that has been largely marginalized since the new administration took office. Could the United States be on the doorstep of a feasible energy policy?
