Bloomberg: Reliance Is Eighth-Largest Hirer of Aframax Ships for Fuels
“Reliance Industries Ltd., owner of the world’s largest oil refining complex, was the eighth-biggest charterer of Aframax vessels used to transport petroleum products last year, according to a ship broker. Charters by Reliance, controlled by billionaire Murkesh Ambani, represented about 3 percent of the market for Aframax- size ‘clean’ tankers last year, each with the capacity to carry about 830,000 barrels of gasoline, according to a report released by New York-based Poten & Partners. Mumbai-based Reliance in 2009 became one of the top 10 charterers of Aframax tankers for the first time, and was the seventh-biggest charterer of that type of ship, Poten said in a report last year. . . . Vitol Group, the world’s largest independent oil trader, was the biggest charterer of Aframax vessels in 2010 with about 8 percent of market share, Poten said in the Jan. 21 report.”
