Bloomberg: Chevron Says Carbon Plan Threatens Australian LNG
“Bloomberg quoted from Poten’s recent article “Aussie LNG Players Face Emissions Trading Challenge.” In that article Poten stated that “Global players are coming to grips with emissions trading systems as a means to reduce greenhouse gases and clean up the environment. But such schemes present unique challenges in producing countries like Australia, where they could undermine the competitiveness of LNG and other important extractive industries. Belinda Robinson, the Chief Executive of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association, has warned government policy makers that they need to ensure emission-intensive industries most exposed to these types of initiatives are not competitively disadvantaged. Ms Robinson specifically referred to Australia’s LNG industry, and her concerns were echoed by current and would-be producers including both Woodside and Chevron.”
