A Man A Plan A Canal
he Panama Canal has become one of the integral waterways for world maritime commerce. Since the Canal opened for transit in 1914 it has facilitated the transportation of more than 200 million tons of cargo each year on over 14,000 ships. Although discussed for many years, in April a proposal indicated Panama’s plans to expand the Canal to accommodate more traffic and larger vessels came together. If the plans are approved by a public referendum at the end of the year shipowers can expect to be able to bring much larger ships through the Canal.
