Platts: Total, Cheniere Still Eye LNG Deal
“France’s Total is still negotiating with Cheniere Energy to buy LNG from the proposed Sabine Pass LNG export project the US Gulf Coast state of Louisiana, but talks have stalled over potential force majeure issues according to a recent report by Poten & Partners – LNG in World Markets. “Total is concerned that the US government might withdraw Cheniere’s license to export US-made LNG if there is political pressure to do so, and is balking at Cheniere’s request that Total pay a fixed charge for the full contractual amount for two years if a force majeure prevents exports….”
