Bloomberg: Shipping Waiver Seen Helping New York Fuel Supply After Storm
“Suspending restrictions on ships carrying fuel between US ports will help supply the storm- battered Northeast as power outages continue to constrain unloading of cargoes, according to two shipping analysts. The Obama administration said today it waived the requirement that only US ships can move between the country’s ports, known as the Jones Act. . . . . ‘The supply is there in the US Gulf Coast, so the waiver could facilitate supplies into New York City,’ Jeff McGee, head of marine research and consulting at Poten & Partners Inc., a New York-based shipbroker, said by e-mail. ‘The problem is, will the terminals be open to receive?’”
