Ship Prices Rise: Will Rates Make up the Difference?
What every ship owner knows post the 1973 Middle East oil crisis is that he really never knows. And with VLCC newbuilding prices the highest they’ve been in nearly 10 years, wild cards such as an oil crisis are decidedly less palatable to the taste. Last year, with record high rates, volatility worked in the owners’ favor. But whether rates will meet the expectations of shipowners in the future remains to be seen.
