The Storage Story
Use of tankers as floating storage has seemed to consistently capture the attention of those in the tanker and broader oil markets for over a year. In the early part of 2009, crude oil tankers were the bearers of most of the storage activity, but as the year continued clean product tankers made a significant emergence into such employment. The right combination of freight environment, spot commodity prices and future sentiment seem to create the perfect recipe for tanker demand. Sustainability of such a balance, however, can prove to be more of a challenge.
