The Mississippi River is America’s largest contiguous waterway, and a vital transportation way for the domestic petroleum supply chain. The mighty Mississippi flows 2,348 miles from Lake Itasca, Missouri to empty south of New Orleans, draining water from 31 of America’s 50 states into the Gulf of Mexico and tributary waterways. Ironically, the current torrent of water downstream has many foreseeing shortages in downstream supply of a different sort. The floods of late may spell O-P-P-O-R-T-U-N-I-T-Y for product tanker owners as markets on the US East Coast seek incremental gasoline imports to offset draws in domestic inventories. Download here
