Upstream Online: US tariff war already increasing costs for US LNG industry

April 17, 2025 US President Donald Trump’s global tariff war is already leading to increased costs for the US liquefied natural gas industry, Poten and Partners analysts said on Wednesday. Though Trump granted swift relief on export permits, the new 25% steel and aluminum duties introduced this year “immediately” raised the cost to build new US LNG projects, Sergio Chapa, Poten’s senior LNG analyst for the Americas, said during a webinar on tariffs and the LNG industry.
