The global maritime workforce deserves vaccine priority
The global shipping industry, through its supporting organizations, has come together to show its appreciation for the estimated 1.6 million seafarers in the world. Seafarers are the unsung heroes of the maritime business, a critical industry that carries around 90% of global trade, but seafarers are mostly taken for granted.
In 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, they have continued to keep international trade going while facing significant adversity. Throughout the year, shipping organizations and maritime executives have highlighted the plight of the seafarers to draw attention to the crew-change crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
