Interfax Global Energy: Novatek on the lookout for ice-class tankers
12 July 2018: “Novatek reportedly paid $100,000 to charter the Pskov, which is above the current market rates of $65,000-76000 per day for a similar modern 160,000 cubic metre vessel, according to information from ship broker Poten & Partners.”
“Jason Feer, head of business intelligence at Poten & Partners, said specialist vessels will be able to command a premium within the market because there are so few available.”
“They are typically built for specific projects and operate on long-term charters.”
“”You Pay more for greater capability, and ice-class vessels definitely have enhanced capabilities. That said, I would assume the saving in transit time offset the higher charter rates. Plus, Novatek and the other partners need to move as much [LNG] as possible when the sea is free of ice,” he told Interfax Natural Gas Daily.”
