“The lack of growth in US refining capacity is one of the factors driving the arbitrage that supports the MR2 tanker fleet. US refining capacity in 2017 grew by only 2.3%, to just under 20M barrels per day (b/d), but utilisation grew to 91%.”
“However, domestic demand has remained stable and the additional production has been exported, according to US broker Poten and Partners head of research Erik Broekhuizen.”
