China proposes 25 percent on US tariffs

The latest escalation in the brewing trade conflict between China and the US came on April 4 when China announced retaliatory tariffs on up to $50 billion worth of US goods including propane, some types of plastics and propylene/ethylene derivatives. The Chinese tariffs on propane have the potential to dramatically affect the global propane markets. According to Chinese statistics, the country imported
3.5 MMt of LPG from the US in 2017, accounting for 19% of its total LPG imports. From a US perspective, exports to China accounted for 12% of total LPG exports. Overall, this 3.5 MMt represents about 3.3% of the global market trade.
