Taking Stock Of Inventories
23-Feb-2018: Few oil publications are followed as closely as the Weekly Petroleum Status Report, published every Wednesday morning by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. It gives a detailed account of weekly U.S. petroleum balances, including domestic oil production, imports, exports and movements in crude oil and petroleum product inventories. Prices move as a result of this report, especially when the movements are unexpected (which happens on a regular basis). This week was one of those weeks: counter to what most analysts expected, U.S. crude inventories fell and oil prices jumped. There are a lot of moving parts that go into these balances and some are influencing (or influenced by) the tanker market.
