Lebanon Eyes LNG Imports For Southern Zahrani
May 28, 2010
Lebanon has turned the clock back 12 years, once again looking to LNG to help meet medium to long term fuel requirements in its chronically short power sector. The country is facing a debilitating  energy crisis, just as it did in the late 1990s when import plans were first proposed by a joint venture led by Elf Aquitaine, the French company acquired by Total in 2000.

Nigeria's Acting President Pushes Petroleum Bill
April 30, 2010
The new law gives preferential treatment to indigenous companies seeking to participate in the country’s oil and gas industry and requires that IOCs hire more Nigerians. This could give the PIB a fillip, as it removes the need for that larger bill to include similar legislation. Also, for the first time the government has awarded licenses for dedicated gas exploration to four companies – Shell Petroleum Development Company, Total Fina Elf, Niger Delta Resources and Nigeria Agip Oil Co. Historically, gas discoveries have been a by-product of exploration activities focusing on oil; a trend for gas-specific exploration could yield significant new reserves.

Mixed Impact For LNG From Shale Gas Revolution
March 31, 2010

It’s no secret that the US gas industry is in the midst of a supply revolution triggered by the unprecedented rise in unconventional production – tight sands, coal bed methane and shale gas. Representing just 15% of US gas output in 1990, unconventional supplies accounted for over 50% of domestic production in 2008, with the absolute volume quadrupling from 75 Bcm/y to 300 Bcm/y.

LNG: Cold Spell Raises UK Infrastructure Concerns
January 31, 2010

In recent years as the European Union debated ways to decrease its dependence on Russian pipeline supplies, the UK’s own North Sea production allowed it to stay largely on the sidelines even as its fields went into decline and its imports rose. However, the cold snap that hit the country earlier this month has raised concerns about the adequacy of the UK’s gas supply infrastructure and may have acted as a wake up call to bring energy security back to the front of national agenda.

Industry Struggles To Absorb LNG Supply Surge
January 04, 2010

According to a Strategic Analysis Report, Soaring Supply and Diving Demand, from Poten & Partners LNG Consulting, LNG markets are unlikely to be able to absorb available supply through 2013, even after allowing for some substitution of gas-fired for coalfired power generation.

Hess LNG Revives New Jersey’s Crown Landing Terminal
November 30, 2009

New import initiatives are rather thin on the ground in North America these days, so the November 3 announcement from Hess LNG that it was taking over BP’s long-delayed and litigation prone Crown Landing project in New Jersey caused quite a stir.
